I run into people all the time doubting if God loves them and thinking they are unworthy of God’s blessing. These thoughts usually stem from their religious background based in fear and control. So, why is it some seam to live in God’s blessing and good graces while others can’t seam to catch a break? Does God play favorites or is it something that we can determine from our actions.
Romans 2:11 states, “For God shows no partiality.”
With that being the case there must be some formula for finding yourself on the blessing side of God.
I have identified 4 areas in the scripture in which God moves are your behalf and brings blessing. This is not meant to be an all inclusive list, but rather some fundamental things that are a must.
First, God gives grace through humility.
James 4:6, “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
God requires a person’s humility. He is God and you are not. The faster you come to that conclusion the better off you will be. Humility is a willful submission to the authority of another. Put God in the driver’s seat and hang on.
Second, God gives love through the cross.
1 John 4:10, “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
God expresses his love to every person through the Son, Jesus Christ. When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you become consumed in the love of God. Now that same love that caused Jesus to sacrifice himself for you causes you to sacrifice for others. You not only know the love of God, but you become the love of God to others.
Third, God gives strength through righteousness.
1 Chronicles 16:9, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars.”
God is a relational god. He wants to walk with you and talk with you. When you decide to walk with the Lord in righteousness, you will find that you have strong support from God. To many desire the strong support but don’t want to walk with him. It doesn’t work that way. When you join God in his walk and work you have all the support from God for that walk.
Fourth, God gives generously through your generosity.
Malachi 3:10, “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
God’s nature is to give. When a person becomes a selfless giver you take on the nature of God. He then fuels your generosity with his own generosity allowing you to give more and more. But, if you are only a consumer for personal gain or pleasure God will withhold his generosity. For more on this read Haggi chapter 1.
